Alabama NAACP creates initiative to boost voter turnout As November quickly approaches, Alabama voters will face a significant choice on their ballots: selecting a representative for the newly established second congressional district, created following a federal mandate. Robert Clopton, president of the Mobile NAACP branch, is spearheading efforts to boost voter turnout locally. Clopton and other Alabama NAACP members will gather on Saturday at 10 a.m. at New Bayside Baptist Church in Mobile as part of a statewide tour designed to rally local voters. “Tomorrow’s kick off of the tour will begin in three different areas – one, Evergreen, Troy and here in Mobile, Alabama,” Clopton explained. “Tomorrow here in Mobile we will have the state president of the NAACP plus one of our plaintiffs in the Allen v. Proposed bill would allow state to take over local police departments if needed
Recent crime rates in Alabama has prompted two state lawmakers to propose legislation that would allow the state to take over local police departments. Rep. Reed Ingram and Sen. Will Barfoot, both Republicans, are proposing a bill that would allow the attorney general or governor to appoint an interim police chief if there is a threat to public safety. “You need individuals at the top of the food chain and the law enforcement side that have the will to prosecute and the will to go after those criminals committing those violent acts of crime,” Barfoot said.

Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-AL) has admitted he came to New York City Monday to break a gag order for former President Donald Trump. MSNBC Anchor Nicolle Wallace reported Tuberville's public admission, made on the conservative channel Newsmax, as part of her coverage on Trump's ongoing criminal hush money trial and the gag order the former president has been fined for repeatedly violating. "I guess we love that he just gives it to us, right?" said a laughing Wallace. "Were you trying to go against the gag order and intimidate witnesses because Trump can't? 'Yes, sir.'"
