Is Donald Trump right when he says the border is just an ’artificially drawn line’?
Historians say he's not exactly wrong, but the story of the Canada-U.S. border is complicated. U.S. President Donald Trump repeated one of his favourite talking points in his meeting with Prime Minister Mark Carney Tuesday, saying the Canada-U.S. border is an artificially drawn line. Somebody drew that line many years ago with, like, a ruler — just a straight line right across the top of the country, he said when the two leaders met in front of reporters at the White House. (RCI 5/7/25) READMORE>>>>>
'Feels like a betrayal:' Canadians just over the Detroit River react to Trump tariffsBusiness was brisk last weekend at Gina’s Café. Some customers might have come for the espresso or a chicken parm panini, but Gina Korva mentioned something else. The owner of the restaurant on Erie Street in Windsor’s Little Italy was serving lots of U.S. residents, who had come, she said, to show their love for Canadians. One customer, she recalled, said, “We’re mad at our country.” “It’s sad to see what’s going on,” she said from behind the counter Thursday morning, referencing recent tensions between the two countries. (USA Today 3/10/25) READMORE>>>>>
Trump to talk tariffs with leaders of Canada and Mexico: 'They owe us a lot of money'
President Donald Trump said he will talk to leaders from Canada and Mexico on Monday, a day before the 25% tariffs he imposed on the country's top two trading partners go into effect. Within hours of Trump’s Saturday order, Canada’s Prime Minister Justin Trudeau hit back with tit-for-tat retaliatory 25% tariffs on American goods. Mexico’s President Claudia Sheinbaum said she was considering "tariff and non-tariff measures in defense of Mexico's interests." "I'm speaking with Prime Minister Trudeau tomorrow morning and I'm also speaking with Mexico tomorrow morning," Trump said Sunday, as he landed at Joint Base Andrews in Maryland, after flying back from his Florida home. "They owe us a lot of money, and I'm sure they're going to pay."   (USA Today 2/25/25) READMORE>>>>>
Trump warns Canada, Mexico tariffs are coming on Saturday
President Trump on Thursday said he plans to follow through on Saturday on his threat to impose 25 percent tariffs on goods from Mexico and Canada. “We’ll be announcing the tariffs on Canada and Mexico for a number of reasons,” Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. He cited the influx of migrants at the southern border, the flow of fentanyl into the United States and the trade deficit the U.S. has with its neighbors.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau flew to Florida to meet with President-elect Donald Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate, Canada's CBC News reported. The meeting comes in the wake of Trump's threat to impose tariffs on goods coming from Canada.  Trudeau was expected to dine with Trump at Mar-a-largo Friday night, according to senior sources who spoke to CBC News on condition they not be named due to the sensitivity of the trip. The sources said the meeting was pushed for by Canadian officials, the Canadian broadcaster said.

‘Our democracy is on the line’: The focus on bad-actor MPs misses the bigger problem with foreign meddling, security committee chair warns
The head of an all-party committee whose latest review of foreign interference suggested some MPs are working for the benefit of foreign states is arguing the focus on that narrow segment of the report is missing the mark. National security is not a game and most certainly not a partisan one, said Liberal MP David McGuinty, the chair of the powerful National Security and Intelligence Committee of Parliamentarians (NSICOP), whose report last week assessing six years’ worth of intelligence and government action related to foreign interference included stunning conclusions about alleged complicity by MPs.  But McGuinty urged his fellow parliamentarians — as well as Canadians as a whole — to read the report in its entirety and understand that foreign states are covertly flexing their muscles inside NGOs, boardrooms, media coverage and many other elements of society, not just in the House of Commons.  (Toronto Star 6/12/24) READ MORE>>>>>

I guess we shouldn't be surprised that the Republicans would start a war with Canada. They seem to be making war with anyone and everyone who does not think like they do....which actually doesn't involve a lot of the "thinking" part.

February 5, 2022: CTV News reported: A second weekend of protests by the so-called "freedom convoy" is taking place in the country's capital, with as many as 300 to 400 trucks expected to try and enter the downtown core, according to police estimates, along with up to 2,000 people on foot and another 1,000 counter-protesters.
February 11, 2022: Jillian Horton reported for Los Angeles Times: “The chaos is courtesy of a loose-knit group of individuals that is demanding governments repeal vaccine mandates and public health restrictions. They brand themselves as speaking for “truckers,” but neither the Canadian Trucking Alliance nor Teamsters Canada supports their positions — indeed, the latter organization says that 90% of its members are vaccinated. The deeper truth is that the convoy has become a melting pot for individuals with a wide variety of grievances and antisocial beliefs, and involves a larger international effort to interfere with our democracy.”
