Elise Marie Stefanik (born July 2, 1984 in Albany, New York) is an American politician serving as the U.S. representative for New York's 21st congressional district. As chair of the House Republican Conference since 2021, she is the fourth-ranking House Republican. Stefanik's district covers most of the North Country and the Adirondack Mountains, some of the outer suburbs of Utica and the Capital District in New York. In addition to being the first woman to occupy her House seat, Stefanik was 30 when first elected to the House in 2014, making her the youngest woman elected to Congress at the time.
Private-sector paydays threaten Mike Johnson's House majority Johnson will start Jan. 3 with (at most!) a 221-213 vote majority, before falling as low as 218-216 until special elections can replace Trump Cabinet appointees. Florida will hold a special election on April 1 to fill the seats of former Rep. Matt Gaetz and Trump's national security adviser nominee Rep. Michael Waltz. New York expects a similar timeline to replace Rep. Elise Stefanik, who's nominated as UN ambassador. The bottom line: Even at full strength, the House GOP majority will be at most 221-214. That's a margin nightmares are made of. Elise Stefanik, the No. 3 Republican in the House, also made the unfounded claim that the trial outcome is a sign of a "corrupt and rigged" justice system. "I fully support President Trump appealing this decision and look forward to the New York Court of Appeals delivering justice and overturning this verdict," she said. Stefanik claimed, without evidence, that the case was "brought forward by Joe Biden's allies in a desperate attempt to save Biden's failing campaign and the verdict hinged on the testimony of a convicted felon who was disbarred for lying." But when it comes to Donald Trump's recent divisive comments about migrants "poisoning the blood" of America, she's staying silent. After she went viral with her questioning of university presidents about hate speech on their campuses, the No. 4 House Republican declared to POLITICO that “a reckoning” is due for those who don’t stand up to antisemitism. Stefanik did not return repeated requests for comment, however, about Trump's weekend rhetoric — which echoed Adolf Hitler's use of the term "blood poisoning" in his manifesto "Mein Kampf," where he criticized the mixing of races. ..........Congresswoman Elise Stefanik, who represents communities along the Canadian border, said she opposes a Long Island castle owner’s bid to convert his mostly empty upstate hotel in Massena in her district into an emergency shelter for migrants sent from the Big Apple. She noted that border crossings have skyrocketed 2,100% along the New York-Canada dividing line that includes her district. “In the North Country, we support the rule of law. I stand with our hard-working local officials opposed to the relocation of illegal immigrants into Massena or anywhere else,” said the head of the House Republican Conference to The Post on Tuesday. The vast majority of migrants that have been flooding the country enter illegally, with many then claiming asylum and being allowed to stay here legally while their legal bid plays out in US courts, sometimes for more than a decade. “We are not a leftist `Sanctuary City’ like New York City,” Stefanik said, referring to the Big Apple’s vow to not completely participate with federal law-enforcement efforts to ferret out illegal immigrants. “Enough is enough with this madness. --New York Post: Upstate NY Dems proudly welcome dozens of migrants from NYC while Rep. Donald Trump hasn’t said if he will run for president again, but that doesn’t seem to be stopping him from privately musing about his potential running mate if he does. The latest person to catch his eye: Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York, the moderate-turned-MAGA star who has developed a strong relationship with the former President, according to multiple GOP sources with direct knowledge of the matter. May 14, 2021: AP: In devotion to Trump, House GOP taps Stefanik for a top post
House Republicans elevated Rep. Elise Stefanik to a leadership post Friday, highlighting how the party whose lodestar has long been conservative policies increasingly views allegiance to Donald Trump as its indispensable key to electoral success. Stefanik, a Trump stalwart from upstate New York, was elected to the No. 3 leadership job that until this week belonged to Rep. Liz Cheney of Wyoming. Republicans tossed Cheney from that post for continually calling out former President Trump for helping spur the violent Jan. 6 Capitol insurrection and relentlessly pushing his false claims that voting fraud caused his November reelection defeat. This week, Congresswoman Liz Cheney, the third-ranking Republican in the House, was removed from her position as House GOP conference chair. Cheney had drawn the ire of her Republican colleagues and President Donald Trump after she dismissed his attempts to spread lies about the result of the general election. Representative Elise Stefanik, a Republican representing New York’s 21st District, will replace Cheney. Stefanik was elected in 2014 as a moderate Republican, but in recent years she’s embraced President Trump. She was a vocal supporter during the first impeachment trial and has more recently participated in attempts to sow doubt about the result of the general election. When Elise Stefanik was elected to the House of Representatives in 2014, she was hailed as the fresh face of the new GOP. Stefanik had run for office in her 20s, determined to modernize the Republican Party to attract more women and appeal to her fellow millennials. In her victory speech, she praised her opponents for their good-faith participation in the miracle of American democracy. “No matter their party, our democratic process is strengthened by those individuals willing to put forth their ideas,” she said on the night she became the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. |
January 8, 2024: George Conway: “...it’s completely obscene. I mean, the notion that these people who tried to overthrow the government at his behest, tried to end constitutional democracy in America, and who are being prosecuted, who were indicted by federal grand juries for their crimes against the United States – to say that they are hostages is just definitionally absurd, but just morally obscene. The notion that people accept that, that he’s not drummed out of public life for saying something like that and that, indeed, people like Elise Stefanik parrot his lies is just one more condemnation, self-condemnation of the Republican party. I just don’t know how much lower they can go.”
![]() “The desperate sick NY Democrats are so deranged and unethical that they imported the radical cannabis New York City attorney Paula Collins who has never voted in Upstate NY to run against Congresswoman Stefanik. Not only has this NYC Democrat candidate called to imprison Trump voters in “re-education camps” but also she is now committing election crimes as she is illegally using political donations to pay her rent at a Bed and Breakfast, something she has now admitted to after the announcement of an FEC investigation into her campaign. Collins’ defense of Kamalanomics and the failed Far Left Democrat open border policies of the Biden-Harris Administration show just how out of touch she is with the hardworking Upstate NY families. The Senate’s weak border bill would have only worsened the crime and humanitarian crises caused by our wide open borders, further devastating our communities. The Democrats’ Far-Left economic agenda decimated the thriving pre-pandemic Trump economy, undercutting American industry and Trump’s proven economic policies with massive spending and burdensome bureaucratic oversight that ushered in the highest inflation in decades and undermined our economic and national security. Paula Collins is going to be crushed at the ballot box just like every other NYC Democrat candidate they have desperately imported to Upstate.” – Alex DeGrasse, Senior Advisor to Chairwoman Stefanik 9.13.24

In addition, this administration is shamefully further restricting milk choice for families and keeping the door open for more forced vegan juice consumption. Upstate dairy farmers work hard to provide delicious and nutritious products for families in New York and across the nation, and this proposed rule is a slap in the face to their important work. While I am encouraged that USDA has included my recommendation to increase container size flexibility for WIC products, this is a deeply flawed proposal, and I will work to ensure families in Upstate New York have access to full dietary benefits of milk.” |

May 7, 2021: Politico reported: Rep. Elise Stefanik is on the verge of ascending to the House GOP’s No. 3 spot thanks in part to a personal mission: boosting other Republican women. Stefanik’s most visible identity is that of a moderate New York Republican turned Donald Trump acolyte. But she’s also been instrumental in shifting the GOP’s internal culture to prioritize electing more women to its depleted ranks, a gender imbalance she once dubbed a “crisis” for the party. Following a successful 2020 election cycle aided by Stefanik’s PAC dedicated to that mission, Republicans of all ideological stripes view that model as a winning recipe for seizing back the House next year.
May 7, 2021: New York Times reported What Elise Stefanik’s Rise Means for the G.O.P. Representative Elise Stefanik, who’s in line to take Ms. Cheney’s place, is a perfect symbol of the shift. Just over six years ago, at 30 years old, Ms. Stefanik was the youngest woman ever elected to Congress at the time. She did it by flipping an upstate New York district that had sent a Democrat to the House for the past two decades (albeit with the help of a redrawn congressional map that added more conservative-leaning counties to the district), and since then she has legislated mostly like a moderate.
