guns - second amendment
April 5, 2023:
We are now so desensitized to the frequency of mass shootings that we now actually give a sigh of relief and say "Thank God, it was only six people, it could have been so much worse." Before we have even emotionally absorbed one tragedy there will be another in a matter of days. " What is wrong with us?", a letter to the editor in a Louisiana paper writes, "When did holding on to power and "winning" become more important than the sanctity of life? When did we give up on the concept of community and working together to create a better, safer, more equitable community for everyone?"

After the 2018, Santa Fe High School shooting, Texas Governor Greg Abbott said that he would consult across Texas in an attempt to prevent gun violence in schools. He had a series of round-table discussions followed at the state capitol. In a speech to a NRA convention in Dallas almost two weeks later, Abbott said, "The problem is not guns, it’s hearts without God".
So, if that is the problem..what is the answer? It would be making efforts to turn hearts toward God, would it not? Or is it blaming the Christian church for not reaching those hearts? And how does an elected official deal with that when separation of church and state is a paramount issue throughout America's history?
A few days later Abbott published a Youtube video saying the shooter broke "two gun laws the day he committed the multiple murders"..... It is a felony to possess a gun on school property" and "what he did on campus is capital murder. That's a crime that would have subjected him to the death penalty in Texas." So, if that is the answer..what is the problem? Are shooters concerned about committing a crime? Obviously not. The State of Texas has executed 578 people since 1982. Seems to me that if you combine both responses from Governor Abbott that the shootings resulted because they had a godless heart and ignorance of capital penalties.
Before God reaches hearts, men are subject only to or restrained by secular rules and laws of society. Don't kill people with guns. Governments can only really control the penalty phase of any legal breach of justice...though lawyers can often breach that and do quite often.
Reaching hearts is actually the most sure way. But you can't make reaching hearts a law with consequences no matter how hard you try to legislate it. And since the second amendment is applied in the way it is today which gives any gun enthusiast an orgasm there aren't much options...or maybe none at all -Z

The gay club shooting suspect evaded Colorado's red flag gun law
Gun control advocates say Aldrich's June 2021 threat is an example of a red flag law ignored, with potentially deadly consequences. While it's not clear the law could have prevented Saturday night's attack — such gun seizures can be in effect for as little as 14 days and be extended by a judge in six-month increments — they say it could have at least slowed Aldrich and raised his profile with law enforcement.
"We need heroes beforehand — parents, co-workers, friends who are seeing someone go down this path," said Colorado state Rep. Tom Sullivan, whose son was killed in the Aurora theater shooting and sponsored the state's red flag law passed in 2019. "This should have alerted them, put him on their radar." 11.21.22

China Daily: Mexico presses on in bid to halt guns
Mexico is moving forward with a second civil lawsuit against gun shops in the United States as part of a push to stop the trafficking of weapons to criminal organizations.
"This lawsuit concerns a common cause of both Mexico and the United States, two sovereign nations whose citizens suffer when gun dealers along our shared border illegally supply the criminal market," Nicholas Shadowen, an attorney at law firm Hilliard Shadowen LLP in Austin, Texas, told China Daily.
"No person or group in America — whether pro-gun or anti-gun — should defend gun dealers when they facilitate the unlawful flow of weapons into the hands of criminals. Everybody loses in this situation, and everyone should be united to put an end to it."

October 22, 2022:
Canada has now prohibited the sale of new handguns in the nation’s strongest gun control law in 40 years. The sale, purchase, and transfer of handguns are banned nationally, starting immediately, according to Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. The new regulations, which went into effect on Friday, prohibit individuals from bringing freshly purchased handguns as well as from acquiring, selling, or transferring firearms within Canada.
This is in response to several very deadly mass shootings.
Let me clarify. This is a freeze on handgun sales and purchases. The main reason they did it is twofold: The increase in gun violence AND an increase in illegal guns coming across the border. It does NOT take away any guns that people already have. Canada's gun homicide rate is a fraction of the United States' rate, 2020 data showed, but is still higher than other wealthy countries and has been rising, with handguns the main weapon used in the majority of firearm-related violent crimes between 2009 and 2020.
And I have no opinion on whether it will work or not work. But it will be important to watch. Initially I didnt understand why they chose handguns and not some other gun but it appears that handguns were involved in quite a few mass shootings...which is a reverse from the USA.
In the UK: handguns are generally banned, with exceptions only for police officers, members of the armed forces, and people with special permission from the home secretary. Military-style weapons are also prohibited.
In Sweden: The government strictly regulates Sweden gun laws as every gun owner must obtain a legal license to own a gun. As mentioned, most gun ownership legal licenses are held by wildlife hunters with a minimum age of 18. It is illegal for a Sweden civilian to carry a gun unless he/she provides a valid intent or purpose (usually for hunting or practicing in the shooting range). In addition, Swedish gun laws require guns to be unloaded, hidden, and supervised throughout the transporting process when transporting guns.
France is amongst the most heavily armed nation in Europe with an estimated 31 guns per hundred people – many fewer than the United States, which has an estimated 120, four times as many. Most European nations have some form of gun control with Sweden being one the most lax. Gun crime, however. is very high. According to a report published by the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention (BRA), the rate of fatal shootings in Sweden ranks “very high” compared to other European countries, with roughly four deaths per million inhabitants per year, while in Europe, approximately 1.6 deaths per million inhabitants.
Countries with the Highest Total Gun Deaths (all causes) in 2019:
Brazil — 49,436
United States — 37,038
Venezuela — 28,515
Mexico — 22,116
India — 14,710
Colombia — 13,169
Philippines — 9,267
Guatemala — 5,980 US is ranking with third world countries which says something.

Dec 12. 2021: Vox: How California plans to copy Texas abortion tactics for gun control
The proposed bill, according to a press release from Newsom, would allow Californians to sue “anyone who manufactures, distributes, or sells an assault weapon or ghost gun kit or parts” for damages — the same injunction-skirting mechanism Texas has used to ban all abortions after six weeks, which has so far been permitted by the Supreme Court. |
Dec 12, 2021: Dead State: Gavin Newsom: If Texans can sue abortion providers, Californians can sue gun makers
Responding to Texas lawmakers who empowered their state’s private citizens to sue abortion providers and anyone else who “aids and abets” women trying to terminate a pregnancy after six weeks, California Gov. Gavin Newsom says he plans to utilize the same tactic against gun manufacturers.

"A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." --Second Amendment
Background checks came about through case law, and though I am not saying I am totally opposed to some background checks (limited), I am saying that such checks are in effect basically asking the government for permission to own a gun. No one should have to ask permission from the government to do anything that is supposed to be Constitutionally protected. Obama's action today is just more encroachment from the Federal government against basic rights. His action to "hire" more agents enlarges the government even more. My negative view of larger government isn't based on any partisan platform, but practicality. Historically, the larger a government becomes the more ineffectual it becomes and it becomes more corrupt as it is unable to police itself. That problem has been there since Adam and will continue as long as man lives connected to that heritage..or, in short, the end of time.
A great deal of case law is Constitutional over reach. A Constitutional Convention may address some issues, but what really needs to be done is a major purging of SCOTUS case law, in which most was created based on the whims and emotion of the day, rather then the Constitution itself. However, there's a 99.9% chance that will never happen because of the power, it gives to attorneys and lawyers and places judges in "high" places.
