Maine Senators speak on a new bill proposed to revise CDC dog importation rule This past summer Maine Senator Susan Collins formed a bipartisan group and sent a letter to the CDC outlining concerns about the rules. Last week, she received a response. “I received a letter from the CDC Director indicating that she had taken into account what she’d heard from stakeholders and the 14 senators bipartisan group that I gathered together to write to the CDC about the dog importation rule,” says Senator Collins, “so I think we’re making progress in that direction.” In the letter, the CDC explains the health risks they hope to prevent with some of the new rules, such as the microchipping and the six-month age minimum. President Joe Biden has approved Maine's request for a Major Disaster Declaration to help Cumberland and York Counties recover from an April nor’easter that caused significant infrastructure damage. Governor Janet Mills said that costs from the two-day storm, including debris removal, damage to roads and bridges, and emergency protective measures are expected to exceed $3.5 million. Maine secretary of state rules Trump ineligible for state's 2024 primary ballot
Maine Secretary of State Shenna Bellows has ruled that former President Donald Trump is ineligible to appear on the state’s 2024 Republican primary ballot. Bellows, a Democrat, issued her decision on three challenges brought by Maine voters, including three politicians, over the nomination petition of Trump for the GOP primary.
