March 31, 2022:
America has entered into the age where politics is reigning as a form of entertainment...where the "Me's" fight the "You's" and vice versa... where the role of who is "Me" and who is "You" is interchangeable. Sadly, that is usually decided by who gets the TV/Internet/CSpan camera time......leaving anything that politics should address as not entertaining enough..and instead seeking for the politics of nothing. For a brief news cycle Chris Rock and Will Smith were more important a topic than Ukraine....so, the way I see it I could care less about Rock and Smith and my choice for who lost is the intelligent folks who had to endure the news cycle that touted the events of Rock and Smith.
Rodney Kennedy, a New York Pastor and Preaching instructor at Palmer Theological Seminary expands on the "politics of Nothing":
The politics of nothing is performative rhetoric, not policy-making legislation. Lights, action, cameras roll — the performance begins. In the 1990s, the situation comedy The Seinfeld Show was dubbed the “show about nothing.” Closer examination determined that the show actually was about quite a lot.
There is, however, a show that really is about nothing: The Republican Congress starring Marjorie Taylor Greene of Georgia, Lauren Boebert of Colorado, John Kennedy of Louisiana, Tom Cotton of Arkansas, Louie Gohmert of Texas, et al.
Sen. Cotton attempts to deny federal funding for the New York Times 1619 Project. He rails about the “loss of civilizational confidence” among white people.
Gov. DeSantis of Florida presents a bill designed to make sure no history teacher teaches Critical Race Theory or anything that might make white people uncomfortable. Somehow, he managed to have the word “freedom” in his bill. How odd that the people of Florida would need a law that gave them the freedom to be comfortable. One would think that the land of sunshine, gated condos, lounge chairs, flip-flops, ill-colored shirts, margaritas, eye-popping bikinis, orange juice and beaches would be basking in comfort.
The new “Do Nothing” Party in D.C. does have some activity, but like the business end of a bee it’s got a lot of stings and no value. Greene and Boebert between them have filed five bills to impeach President Joe Biden. Here the revenge motive glares back at us as if we were watching reruns of The Godfather.
Greene has introduced 17 bills in Congress — four to impeach Biden, one to present the Congressional Medal of Honor to Kyle Rittenhouse, one to eliminate the ATF, one to remove Maxine Waters from the Committee on Financial Services, one to fire Anthony Fauci, two to give Americans more freedom with guns, and one to congratulate the University of Georgia on winning the national championship in football. There’s nothing in any of those bills of benefit to American citizens.
Boebert has introduced bills such as “Stop AOC Act,” “Protect our Kids from Harmful Research,” (but don’t provide free hot breakfast at school), “We’re not paying you to break our laws” act, impeach President Biden for high crimes and misdemeanors, impeach Vice President Kamala Harris for the same reasons, Stop the Biden Caravan Now Act, and the No Mask Mandate Act.
Sen. Cotton has introduced a bill to defund Critical Race Theory called the “Stop CRT Act.” He also has introduced the Saving American History Act, which would prohibit federal funds from being used to teach the 1619 Project curriculum.
Media coverage of the politics of nothing has inspired people to run for Congress on a “Do Nothing” platform. South Carolina Republican candidate for the House Katie Arrington has said her top priorities include dismantling the Department of Education, impeaching President Joe Biden and completing Trump’s border wall.
The politics of nothing wantonly imposes poverty, lack of education, fear of public education, ill-health and a truncated social safety net. Dragging its collective feet on the COVID pandemic, the ranting anti-maskers, “Fire Dr. Fauci” wingnuts, the anti-vaxxers, and the “we can’t shut down the nation” railers, we have managed to kill almost one million of our fellow Americans in the name of something called “freedom.”

Every war is a defeat for humanity, because men and women endowed with reason should be able to resolve their differences without mass violence. Reason, however, can be corrupted by ignorance, passion, ideology, pride, and innumerable other vices. And the distortion of reason can make the slaughter of others, including innocents, seem not only permissible, but even imperative. Thus within his own warped frame of reference, Vladimir Putin’s barbaric assault on Ukraine makes sense—to him. -George Weigel; First Things
![]() Tragically on so many levels, close monitoring of local government by skilled, interested, conscientious journalists is largely a thing of the past. Published articles, when they exist, are most likely to contain only brief, undetailed, often poorly written highlights and to run on Page 6.
For millennia, free countries have depended on the Fourth Estate as a fundamental guardian of governmental transparency and integrity. That responsibility begins with conscientiously covering even local governments and holding them to account. Not all reporting is exciting or flash-bang career-making. But all of it is vital, at every level. --Dona Clements;Amarillo Globe News 3.28.22 |
![]() Along with many people over recent weeks, I have been greatly inspired by Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Even before becoming president, he had numerous fans as a highly successful and charming actor, comedian and — yes — winner of the Ukrainian version of “Dancing with the Stars”! (These clips will melt your heart: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TlJywp7E3Gw ). When he became president, however, expectations of his abilities in this new role were fairly low.
Ironically, he once acted in an eerily prescient sitcom called “Servant of the People.” In this he played a high school teacher who rails against corruption. And, after a student’s film of him goes viral, ends up elected president! Then he actually did become president! I don’t know if he’s still playing a role, acting “as if” he has the power of the Holy Spirit with him. I do know that he is bravely and self-sacrificially standing with his people and up to the Russian tyrant Vladimir Putin. He appears ready to lay down his life, if need be, for his friends (John 15:13). --Sabrina Falls; Sisters of Providence ![]() “I just no longer felt comfortable with the programming at Fox...I’m fine with opinion: conservative opinion, liberal opinion. But when people start to question the truth — Who won the 2020 election? Was Jan. 6 an insurrection? — I found that unsustainable.” -Chris Wallace to the New York Times on why he left Fox News

"We must remain unified today and tomorrow and the day after ... it will not be easy. There will be cost, but it's a price we have to pay because the darkness that drives autocracy is only no match for the flame of liberty that lights the souls of free people everywhere......In the perennial struggle for democracy and freedom, Ukraine and its people are on the front lines, fighting to save their nation and their brave resistance is part of a larger fight for essential democratic principles that unite all free people." Former Secretary of State Madeleine Albright passed away from cancer on Wednesday. She was 84. Albright, who immigrated to the United States in 1948, was the first female secretary of state in U.S. history. Originally from Czechoslovakia, Albright, then Madeleine Korbel, fled to England with her family in 1939 after the Nazis invaded her home country. The Korbels were Roman Catholics by faith but Jewish by heritage. According to USA Today, three of Albright’s grandparents died in the Holocaust. After the war, the Korbels briefly returned to Czechoslovakia but moved to the U.S. after the nation fell under communist rule. - Kayla Koslosky; Christian headlines 3.24.22

The World Health Organization (WHO) defines an infodemic as “too much information including false or misleading information in digital and physical environments during a disease outbreak”. Among other effects it “causes confusion and risk-taking behaviours that can harm health. It also leads to mistrust in health authorities and undermines the public health response.” We’ve seen misinformation slow progress toward vaccination thresholds, and we’ve seen it skilfully exploited by populists.
One thing is apparent. The standard liberal response to misinformation no longer works. In the marketplace of ideas, accurate information was supposed to promptly drive false information out, much in the way a better mousetrap soon deletes inferior models. But today false information flourishes, and even seems to be encouraged by campaigns to correct it. ...From an article by Nicholas Agar 2.17.22

Mar 24, 2022: abc Religion & Ethics: Will ostracising Russia bring about an end to the war in Ukraine? The Western media’s narrative might be morally satisfying, but it could prove counterproductive
Putin’s war on Ukraine is an appalling event whose consequences will be with us for a long time. Everything is now worse as a result — from geopolitics to the everyday lives of Ukrainians and, for that matter, Russians. The old Cold War division of the world into two hostile camps is making a comeback, the world economy is under heavy pressure, Europe’s refugee crisis has deepened, many of Ukraine’s cities has been brutally damaged and millions of Ukrainians have been forced to flee the country. Foreign policy hawks are resurgent in the United States and elsewhere; political repression in Russia has intensified.

Ukraine has been an independent country for more than half Vladimir Putin’s adult life (he turns 70 this year). It’s been a free republic for more than 30 years, long enough for the first generation of Ukrainians born since independence to have school-age children of their own. It’s had seven different leaders, all of them still alive.

Faith comes by hearing the word of God...it does not say it comes from reading the word of God. Granted, reading the word is important and it is a sure help for growing faith. But if God is really there than you need to LISTEN to Him. Through that you will have assurance of not showing up on that day and God saying "I dont know you." If youre having a problem with actually hearing God it is not because He does not want to speak. He weighs your heart. Demonizing people you label as progressive and evil will not help the weight of your heart.
Politics is a symptom....NOT a remedy. It never will be. Laws will stop some abortions...but will not stop abortion. And the women prolifers spent years saying they were not going to be arrested or jailed for it....will now be arrested and jailed for murder...so dont expect any parades for the "laws". After 40 to 50 some years of the church addressing it as a political movement...they still missed the whole vision. It is possible that God could have intervened shortly after January 1973. But He wasnt invited. Instead political agendas and anti-abortion groups took to action and politicians year after year promised to end abortion....and best the Church could do was ask God to bless their endeavors. Now both left and right have created a cataclysmic riff and mucked it all up. NEVER does the Bible under the new covenant authorize politicians to share His glory. He wont do it. And now here we are. Start preaching about the God who is there and not the one you can only read about in the bible.

Politics can many times be a continuation of religion by other means. In Europe religion was a primary force in politics for many centuries. When religion seemed to be in retreat, it renewed itself in political creeds - Nationalism and varieties of totalitarianism - that were partly religious in nature. This is a work in progress. As I prayed and studied this afternoon this kind came together. I think there is more to it than this but this is a good foundation.
Patriotism is not blind allegiance to a particular political party or flag. It is a commitment to fulfill our assigned role as Christians in whatever nation God places us. I have often considered the balance of Christian vs patriotism and how that balances out. I have never called myself a "patriot" though have had people label me that as I made my way as a "member" through the right winger events and discussions.
Acts 17:26 &27:
And (God) hath made of one blood all nations of men for to dwell on all the face of the earth, and hath determined the times before appointed, and the bounds of their habitation;
That they should seek the Lord, if haply they might feel after him, and find him, though he be not far from every one of us.
Right wing patriotism...(and I address that because it the one I used to associate myself with)...is built upon self important individualism. It is all about them. And we all know their mantra and mating call: "My Rights! My Rights! My Rights!" The end result for any endeavor they have to do with is "What can I get out of it?"
Romans 14:7 For none of us lives for ourselves alone, and none of us dies for ourselves alone.
Hebrew word for the United States has long been: " ארץ הברית " which means "land of the covenant." Hebrew, however, can say and spell out United States but they used that because they believed that the USA is based on a covenant--(the Constitution) which establishes who we are as a country (Source: Derek Prince). The Constitution requires commitment to that covenant.. The founders understood that and made efforts to establish a country (this country) for ALL men and all religions. And All men...to live in peace with one another..by committing to that standard. Politicians take oaths to defend that standard. So it goes without saying that efforts to break that "covenant" are not God ordained by any means. And to be fair, there is a right wing fringe (that is devouring the Republican Party) and a left wing fringe that have no other desire in their "self proclaimed" patriotism but to stack all the political chips into their favor. The right wing has ruled that Romans Chapter 15 does not mean what it says..and so all the "my righters!" claim they have the authority to ignore it and demonize those who do or those who just don't share their rugged individualism while they wave American and Confederate and Christian Flags and keep their other hand on their guns.
If you are an American and reading this right now then you were placed here in this country and time for a reason God ordained. That is something to be excited about.

Glenn Beck is a paranoid schizophrenic propagandist. Everyone that has an ounce of more authority then he has is out to get him. He has a flare for drama and story telling...based on the books he has written. Rightwingers love stories about how evil the hierarchy as it gives them a sense of power to see through evil. Doesnt help..but feels good. I used to swim in that faux reality for quite a few years. Reality is better. More peace and no need for a "power' fix.
As a right winger I beat the drum about how executive orders are just wrong or abused, while at the same time I called myself a "Constitutional Conservative." However it turns out that Executive orders have a constitutional basis: They spring from Article Two of the United States Constitution which gives presidents broad executive and enforcement authority to use their discretion to determine how to enforce the law or to otherwise manage the resources and staff of the executive branch. Its a power that comes with being elected President. I dont have to agree with them all, but I can live with it. They have the Constitutional power to do so.

March 7, 2022: Raw Story: Russian military communications intercepted after they destroyed 4G towers needed for secure calls
On Monday, following reports of the combat death of Russian General-major Vitaly Gerasimov near Kharkiv, Ukraine, Christo Grozev, the executive director of investigative journalism and intelligence group Bellingcat, reported that Russian forces relaying the news back to their superiors were forced to use an insecure phone line with a local sim card — that was promptly intercepted. ![]() March 7, 2022:
When a major global oil producer is involved in a conflict, it sends shockwaves through the oil and gasoline markets — and that translates to higher prices at the pump. That's exactly what's happening right now as oil and gas markets react to the volatility of the situation between Russia and Ukraine. As the United States and NATO debate whether to impose sanctions on the Russian oil and gas industry we will continue to see a significant rise in prices for those goods. The oil market is a bull market with multiple sources of supply, including OPEC and Russia. Gas prices spike as support for Russian oil ban grows. The most recent jump in prices is clearly connected directly to Russia’s invasion and the international sanctions imposed on Moscow in response...which the US has not done yet as of this moment. The rightwingers are pushing their favorite mantra "Biden-did-it" ...and will push it as long as their favorite propagandist, Tucker KKKarlson pushes it. |
