March 3, 2023: NBCBoston: Bill Proposes Stricter Animal Abuse Laws in Mass.
“Most people don’t realize that currently in our laws, only people who have been convicted of sexual abuse are banned from having possession or coming into contact with animals,” State Rep. Tram Nguyen said. “So this bill will fill that gap.” State Representatives Nguyen, Vanna Howard and Sen. Mike Moore sponsored legislation to ensure that anyone convicted of animal abuse can’t own a pet for at least five years, and for subsequent offenders, at least 15 years.

5 takeaways from candidates clashing in Douglas County forum
Coming from an agricultural family in the San Luis Valley, state House District 44 candidate Alyssa Nilemo said her family’s farm was lost due to “buy and dry,” which refers to the practice of buying water from agricultural land and moving the water elsewhere. Nilemo, a Democrat, said she understands the complexity of water rights, arguing that “buy and dry,” and building properties that rely on aquifers for water, doesn’t work. “There’s not a single entity that can solve or resolve this problem,” Nilemo said. “This is one where we have to work across all levels of government and across all communities.” (Douglas County News Press 10/14/24) READ MORE>>>>>

During an appearance on Newsmax's "The Chris Salcedo Show," Fitton discussed the Supreme Court's decision to rule on whether a man involved in the Jan. 6, 2021, breach of the U.S. Capitol Building can be charged with obstructing an official proceeding. Legal experts say the case has implications for the federal prosecution of Trump. (Nicole Wells/Newsmax 12/14/23)

Bill would open Missouri public school sports to homeschool students
A bill to allow home-educated students to participate in Missouri public school activities is back for the upcoming legislative session — and has been coupled with provisions rolling back state oversight of homeschooling families. Sen. Ben Brown, a Washington Republican, pre-filed a 52-page bill that largely resembles the version he sponsored that cleared the Senate last session. While it initially was only two pages and focused on giving homeschool kids the opportunity to play sports and join clubs in public schools, it now would add a new category for home-educated students and rescind attendance officers’ authority over homeschool families. State Rep. Maggie Nurrenbern, a Kansas City Democrat, said what concerns her about the legislation is “simply not knowing which students are being homeschooled.” |
