In Chattanooga cigar bar, evangelical ‘fellowship of merry men’ ponders its place in Trump’s America At "Might & Mirth" gatherings, Glenn Jones said, men encourage one another while embodying God's masculine designs: Strong and forceful, but jolly all the same. He's a leader at Trinity Reformed Chattanooga, a new congregation linked to a small — but, according to one attendee Thursday, punchy and ascendant — conservative evangelical group, which has been in the news recently on account of its ties to the Tennessee-based former Army National Guard officer, Fox News weekend host and "anti-woke" Christian crusader Pete Hegseth, put forth by President-elect Donald Trump to run the U.S. military. Hegseth is just one expression of the sway the group and its ideas might have in Trump's America. Claire Jones easily defeated Kurt Kosack in the race to see who will face incumbent Republican representative Gino Bulso in November. “The whole reason I chose to run was with the idea of unseating Gino Bulso,” Jones said after the election. “To me, this just feels like the next step in hopefully getting closer to doing that.” Jones, a nurse and mother fueled partially by what she sees as the state legislature’s inaction after the Covenant shooting, shared most of her platform with her primary opponent. Senators Seek Answers on Migrants, Delivery Services
A trio of Republican senators are demanding answers about reports that potentially dangerous immigrants are allegedly infiltrating Uber Eats, DoorDash, and GrubHub food delivery services and obtaining Americans' personal information, including home addresses. Sens. Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Mike Braun of Indiana, and Ted Budd of North Carolina on Thursday sent letters to the companies' chief executive officers, stating that President Joe Biden's open border policies have allowed "millions of illegal immigrants" to flood across the southern border and to be allowed to remain in the nation's cities. Tennessee lawmakers send bill to ban first-cousin marriages to governor
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — The Republican-led Tennessee Legislature has overwhelmingly voted to send GOP Gov. Bill Lee a proposal that would ban marriage between first cousins. The House cast a 75-2 vote Thursday on the bill after the Senate previously approved it without any opposition. But a particularly vocal opponent, Republican Rep. Gino Bulso, took up most of the debate time, as he argued for an amendment to allow first-cousin marriages if the couple first seeks counseling from a genetic counselor.

April 7, 2023: LGBTQ Nation: Tennessee House expels two Black male members but not the White female member
In the long history of the Tennessee House, only eight members have ever been expelled, including six Confederates who wouldn’t affirm the citizenship of freed slaves after the Civil War.
Now add to that number two young Black men who wouldn’t accept the status quo of America’s gun violence epidemic.

April 6, 2023: Mother Jones: Tennessee Republicans Expel Two Democratic Lawmakers Who Joined Gun Control Rally
Tennessee’s House of Representatives on Thursday expelled two Democratic members who participated in a gun control protest following the mass shooting at a Nashville grade school. Reps. Justin Jones and Justin Pearson have been stripped of their titles and legislative responsibilities, an extraordinary development in the GOP-led effort to punish him for his involvement in the demonstration. A vote to oust Democratic Rep. Gloria Johnson narrowly failed.

Mar 29, 2023; ABC: Guns, guns, and still more guns: Is there no end to America’s obsession with firearms?
Not to worry, though, because Tennessee Congressman Andy Ogles is on the case. He has stated that he was “devastated” by the news of the Covenant School shooting, that he offers “thoughts and prayers” for the victims and the bereaved families, and is “monitoring the situation”. Never mind that last year, his Christmas card was a photo of him, his wife, and two of their three children brandishing a small arsenal of assault rifles. Tennesseans are in good hands, then.
