russiaMar 24, 2022: abc Religion & Ethics: Will ostracising Russia bring about an end to the war in Ukraine? The Western media’s narrative might be morally satisfying, but it could prove counterproductive
Putin’s war on Ukraine is an appalling event whose consequences will be with us for a long time. Everything is now worse as a result — from geopolitics to the everyday lives of Ukrainians and, for that matter, Russians. The old Cold War division of the world into two hostile camps is making a comeback, the world economy is under heavy pressure, Europe’s refugee crisis has deepened, many of Ukraine’s cities has been brutally damaged and millions of Ukrainians have been forced to flee the country. Foreign policy hawks are resurgent in the United States and elsewhere; political repression in Russia has intensified. Nov 16, 2022: Business Insider: Putin says Russia must undergo a 'self-cleansing of society' to purge 'bastards and traitors' as thousands flee the country
Russian President Vladimir Putin said Wednesday Russia must undergo a "self-cleansing of society." |

The Covid-19 pandemic has thrown South Africa’s schooling system into further disarray, demonstrating how the country’s education system, defined by the apartheid regime’s legacy, lacks resilience in the face of disruption.
Research, compiled by Amnesty International, shows that many people continue to live with the consequences of political and economic decisions made during apartheid, where schools that served white children are better resourced than those that served black children.

December 29, 2021:
Several states in India have passed what are referred to as “anti-conversion laws,” which ban religious conversion by force or through financial benefits. Activists warn that such laws have intensified attacks and prosecution of Christian individuals and groups. Today India blocked foreign donations to Mother Teresa's Christian charity for the poor.
Under the current Prime Minister such attacks are growing. It is at a point where Hindu activist can just claim (without evidence) that a Christian group is trying to convert Indian people and the police will turn a blind eye to any attacks on them. Compassion International, which helped 147,000 children in India left India 3 years ago as the persecutions were in their early stages. Last week, a mob of 200 to 300 people stormed a Christian school in Madhya Pradesh while students were taking their exams and threw stones at the building.
Pray for Christians in India. It is a small blip in a small country but it could spread.

Much has been written about the US trade representative Katherine Tai’s speech from last week resetting the frame on US-China trade relations. But I’m not sure that it’s been given the proper due as a key turning point in the development of a post-neoliberal narrative. For the past half century, it’s been consumers, but this White House wants to focus on a different C-word: citizens.
